CRAFTED WITH PASSION, ROOTED IN NATURE

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of flowers, the smell of earthy fragrances, and the satisfaction of making things by hand.

 

When I reflect on those innate interests from my childhood, in retrospect, it feels like Earth in Vessels was an inevitable part of my personal journey as a woman and artisan.

 

2019 was the year I decided to invest in learning and practicing the art of candle-making with the desire to explore how I could combine the sensory experiences I grew up loving, with the passion I have for creative craftsmanship.

 

After growing more confident in the fundamentals of melting, pouring, and blending, I developed a genuine love for the process as it started to become meditative for me.

 

Once I learned how to create a high-quality candle that I was proud of, I grew more excited about the possibilities of what else I could make by experimenting with different raw materials, ingredients, and techniques.

 

When the COVID-19 pandemic reached the US in early 2020 and the lockdowns began in Brooklyn, NY (where I was living at the time before moving to Austin, TX), making candles and other scent-based goods became a source of therapy for me.

 

In the absence of being able to leave my home for anything other than essentials, refining my craft was the healthy creative outlet I needed that allowed me to engage in something productive that wasn’t related to daily household responsibilities and routines.

 

Enjoying the fulfillment of making something with my hands that made my home smell wonderful and my family’s skin feel good was not only a practical benefit, but those early fragrances are mentally and emotionally associated with fond memories of  finding simple joys during a time of heightened stress and uncertainty.

 

That’s when I truly began to understand how powerful of an impact that scents can have on human emotion and memory—and that’s when it started to click for me that perhaps this wasn’t just a hobby or a pastime, but something that I could potentially turn into a business.

 

Around that time, I began sending loved ones “Pandemic Care Packages” with my handcrafted products in them as samples. Much to my encouragement, not only were they appreciative of the surprise gifts but the feedback I received about the products was overwhelmingly positive.

 

What warmed my heart most were the loved ones who described the products as an experience that improved their atmosphere and mood during such a difficult time.

 

From that point on it all started to come together for me. I began to see that the greater significance of this whole pursuit was that I wanted every scent-based product I made to transform other people’s environments and moods for the better, just like they had done for me, long before I knew where any of this was heading.

 

Shortly thereafter, I began collaborating with my husband John who has built a successful career as a creative in the advertising industry, and together we officially co-founded Earth in Vessels.

 

I'm so thankful for everyone who has kept me inspired and motivated over the years as I’ve continued to try, fail, learn, pivot, and grow. Earth in Vessels is truly a labor of love and with your continued support, I’m excited to see what this can become!
